Crocheting for Obama

Published May 19, 2008 by admin

Phew! Now that things are settling down a bit, I hope to get back to posting here more regularly. Time will be short again next month while we get ready to move, but once we’re moved I’m hopeful that I will have even more time to get crafty stuff done. For one, I will be more organized, and two, I will have actual space in which to DO crafty stuff.

So lately I’ve been doing a lot of these instant gratification preemie hats for the “Knitters for Obama” group on Ravelry. I am, needless to say, NOT knitting them, because ever since I started crocheting again in the fall, I think I have picked up the knitting needles maybe once. I’m hooked on crochet (hah! I made a funny!) and am finding it much more satisfying than knitting for some reason.

Preemie hat #2

This is the one that certain people immediately observed looks rather like a penis cozy instead of a baby hat, only because I used a pop bottle as a prop. And I only used the pop bottle because I finished these off at lunch today and wanted to take a picture to upload to Rav before I sent them off this afternoon. Be assured, next time I will find a better prop to show perspective. Sheesh.

Anyway. Preemie hats for charity drive. So easy! They take me about 20 minutes start to finsh, if I can work on them uninterrupted which isn’t actually that likely. But I did four this week and have two more started so I think I’m doing well. Good for stitch practice, too; the first few I did were straight double crochet, but I’m starting to get creative with them now and add more interesting stitch patterns.

Also finished and sent off a custom order hat last week, and have two baby blankets in progress. Whee!
